Redacting Sensitive Information
You can redact sensitive information from documents before sharing them with others. You should redact information if you are sending it to someone and it contains things like PII and PCI.
How to redact something
You can redact a file within the view mode and redact specific data or entire areas.
Redact a line:
Highlight the information with the cursor.
Hover over the highlight.
Select Mark for redaction.
Select Save Markup to save it for later or to share it with others.
When you are happy with all the redactions or they have been reviewed select Redact Markup and Apply. The file will then be ready to disclose.
Redact an area:
Select Rectangle redaction.
Click and drag to cover the area that needs redacting.
You can Hover over the area to check what will be redacted.
Select Save Markup to save it for later or to share it with others.
When you are happy with all the redactions or they have been reviewed select Redact Markup and Apply. The file will then be ready to disclose.
When you redact information from a file you have two choices, to finalise a redaction or mark it up for review.
Mark up
A mark up version can be reviewed by others before saving a copy and redacting that information. You can use a mark up version to save a file you are not finished with to come back to and continue redacting.
Finalising a redaction
Once you have chosen all the areas to redact you can finalise all redactions. Once finalised the file can not be amended. If you need to make a change you will have to start again from the original document.
Redaction reasons and personalisation
Adding labels will help subjects and reviewers understand why something was redacted. Labels will also promote transparency and confident in the quality of disclosure.
When redacting information you can add a label to explain why.
Hover over the redacted information before applying final redactions.
Select the style option.
From here you can change fonts, add labels and change the redaction colours.
